Many children and adults are not in the habit of reading. They don’t get on with books: they are reluctant readers. As a result, they have little opportunity to develop their literacy skills – and they lose out as a result.
Others may be keen to read, but (for whatever reason) they find reading difficult. Conventional books for a person of their age might be just too difficult to read. These struggling readers need reading materials that are age-appropriate, but which don’t patronise.
Of course, many readers who struggle are also reluctant.
If you’re working with reluctant or struggling readers, either as a parent or teaching professional, the Encouraging Reluctant Readers FAQ offers essential guidance and contains many useful tips. It's a great place to start.

new 2012 'Bookbuzz' programme.
Bookbuzz is a new UK national programme for secondary schools in England.
Congratulations also to illustration maestro Peter Richardson, who illustrated both books.
